It is difficult to be precise about when this photograph was taken.  The last time before the war that Frank and Bryan were home together was in the summer of 1915.  However, at that time Philip would have been 12 and he looks older than this in the picture.

The earliest the photograph could have been taken after the war is in 1919, but Frank looks remarkably well for a man who has suffered his wartime injuries.  However, in April of that year John and Lil celebrated their Silver Wedding anniversary and this together with the end of the war may have prompted them to have a formal portrait of the family taken.  Philip was 16 then, and this looks a much more likely age for the young man in the photograph.

It is interesting to note that although this is a formal family portrait, none of the young men is wearing a tie!
